Working to support our library!
The hot weather, well it’s been hot! Soon it will be back to school and what better time to go to the library. Kate Yates the Bilingual Children’s and Teens’ Librarian requested and received funding for Bilingual and Spanish collection display and storage. The funding for display shelves will bring greater visibility to this collection. With this funding the library can ensure more equitable access of materials in the collection.
We appreciate your continued support; your generous donations will help us continue to improve service to our target community and help ensure a positive library experience for all!
The Board approved new bylaws which will be posted for information only on our WEB site. The attorney FOLL engaged with is a non-profit lawyer and provided expert guidance in developing the bylaws. This is the first complete review refresh of the bylaws since inception of the Friend’s.
The second Library feasibility study was received by the City Council May 17, 2022. Just a few highlights:
- The library was built for 64, 000 residents
- Presently the library is underfunded by $900,000.00
- There is limited capacity for new programs and events because Longmont does not include these in the library budget
There is one main library and no library branches to serve a population of 98,000. Sometimes, I hear “we don’t want to be Boulder” however, Boulder has a main library and four branch libraries. A refresh is planned for the North Boulder Branch, North Boulder Branch Library |Boulder Public Library (boulderlibrary.org). The picture of the refresh tells the story. Boulder Libraries receive $14 million dollars from the city. The Longmont Library receives $4.0 million.
Well, being like Boulder may be wonderful for a library user.

Our June Big Book Sale made a considerable profit; $5841.00 in two and a half days! This
money will go a long way to help our library with purchases not included in the budget.
Thank you to the volunteers who made the sale possible. The folks who helped with set up and
take down were so very helpful, everything was done in record time. We are also very grateful
to our cashiers and people who greeted our patrons and kept the book tables stocked and
orderly. We could not accomplish this without your time and energy.
To the Longmont community, we give our thanks for all the donated books and media which
make our sales possible. To the patrons who always attend our sale and help us provide much
needed funding for many library programs, we extend our appreciation! Lastly, we could not
have a sale without the library staff, thank you so much for your patience and assistance.
We hope to have our next big sale in the early fall. Watch our website and flyers for dates and
Again, our sincere thanks to everyone for making our sale such a success!
