VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

The Friends of the Longmont Library are a group of volunteers who love the library! Volunteering is easy and fun, with short manageable time slots that are flexible enough for any schedule. Whatever your skills, we’ve got a position for you.

Here are some volunteering opportunities. If one appeals to you, please fill out the form below or contact us at Friends@friendsofthelongmontlibrary.org

Book Sales

The biggest moneymaker for the Friends of the Longmont Library is book sales. People donate books. Volunteers sort them into categories and the sell them at our Friends Book Store in the Library Lobby, themed Monthly Sales as well as the BIG Annual Book Sale.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  1. Sorters sort books year-round
  2. Set up and/or tear down the book sales
  3. Cashier during the book sales

Light A Candle

Light A Candle is an annual holiday tradition at the Longmont Public Library — sponsored by the Friends. It provides an opportunity for everyone to participate in supporting our Library.

Here’s how it works:

  • Selected books, DVDs and CDs are displayed in the main lobby.
  • You can purchase an item(s) as a donation to the Library collection.
  • A bookplate is placed on each item to identify you as the donor (if you wish).
  • A candle ornament bearing your name is hung on the Light A Candle Tree.

Through community support and generosity, the Library is able to further expand its collection. All contributions are tax deductible.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Volunteers are scheduled during library hours to cashier, monitor the sale tables, create a candle for the tree, bake cookies, and related activities.

Office Help

Volunteer opportunities include:

  1. Make phone calls
  2. Stuff envelopes
  3. General office support
  4. Computer help
  5. All kinds of other help – please see volunteer form below!

Ambassadors

A Friends Ambassador will make a 2-3 minute presentation at the beginning of Library events and relay the following information:

  • welcome attendees
  • state this event was funded by the Friends
  • explain the Friends mission and import
  • note upcoming Friends/Library events

Then hang out near the back of the room with registration materials for people who are interested in becoming Friends Members. Volunteer time needed: 2-3 hours per month
